Access Violation - start point missing General Update? - by: John

I have just moved to Tokyo 10.2.3. At first, I was getting an error during linking that a write point was an issue. If I ran Project clean it would run just fine. Now I have another error that has something to do with an access violation and a read address.

This project is running on my temporary machine with the first error.
After setting Rad Studio to run as administrator the access violation is gone.

The procedure entry point_write could not be located in the dynamic link library .....

Generally speaking, is this something that can be sorted out with an update ?

website contact page I sent a message, last week, to sales asking a question about purchasing a new Delphi license.

While I have not heard from sales, I did get forced "opted in" to about 10 mailing list. Thankfully a working link to opt-out was included in the first email.

I wonder if I will ever hear from sales.

Delphi 7 debugging issue - by: Carlos

While debugging, I made some changes to the code and after a time I pressed CTRL-F2 to stop the debugging session. I got a message concerning debugging time out. I continued making changes to the code, compilled and run the program again, with the debugger activated.
Then I got two error messages:

Access violaton at address 0052C314 in module 'coreide70.bpl'. Read of address 000000AC
Access violaton at address 0082A534 in module 'vcl70.bpl'. Write of address 00000018

I closed the IDE, started it again a got the same result (even reinit the machine).
If the program is run from the IDE with the debugger deactivated, no error occurs. And no errors when running the program from outside the IDE.
So,my situation s that I can't debug the program.
I'd appreciate some holp.
Thank you
Carlos

QuickBooks and C++ Builder - by: James

I have been tasked with converting our old accounting package to QuickBooks. Has anyone else used C++ Builder (10.2.3 Enterprise) with QuickBooks Premier Desktop? What is your recommendations? Should I install QB SDK or a third party library or use one of the native connectors (i.e., FireDac, dbExpress, etc)? What gotchas should I be on the lookout for? Are there any tutorials I should look at?
I've written numerous SQL programs so I'm most familiar with those connections.

GettingStarted App in Community Edition - by: Steve

I load the "GettingStarted" app in Delphi 10.2 Community Edition and select an Access database to view. The program asks for a username and password and I have no idea what these should be. The Access database is Northwnd and it is not password protected, I have tried to open several other Access databases with the same result.

Please advise.

EMS Server GetUserGroups - by: Randy

I need to get the groups a user belongs to when they login, which looks fairly easy when looking at the GetUserGroups Endpoint detailed below. I am getting a bit hung up since it looks like this can only be accessed via the TEMSClientAPI and not using the EMSProvider, Backendauth or backendquery components I am using. Does anyone have a simple sample of how to get this with a backendquery rest request or point me in the right direction? Can I use the TEMSClientAPI with the EMSProvider and Backendauth to login or do I need to do everything via TEMSClientAPI?

Retrieves the EMS Groups the EMS User (identified by the id) belongs to.
Your request must provide the following field:
_id (UserID)
If successful, the response from the EMS server provides the list of the EMS Groups names the EMS User belongs to.
Use the RetrieveUserGroups method to retrieve the list of EMS Groups the user belongs to.
Example Response
This is an example response to request for user "AB5D4B63-79F9-40A4-A34D-4D2D26ECF170":
[
"testgroup",
"Admins"

android-os-networkonmainthreadexception - by: Marcelo

Hello,
I'm doing an Android application with DataSnap, connecting on a windows server. It worked fine until the time that I decided to put user authentication in DataSnap. When I try to connect on Android it returns the error "android-os-networkonmainthreadexception". If I take the authentication, it works.
From what I read, Android does not let you connect through the main thread. Someone has gone through this and knows how to solve it.

Best regards

Localisation in default button captions does not work right - by: Jouni

I'm working with Delphi 10.2 Community Edition (WIN10 64bit).
My question:
For example MessageDlg('My text', mtConfirmation, [mbYes, mbNo], 0, mbYes) etc.
Localisation of those default Button (mbYes, mbNo) Caption texts will be automatic done by the system? I mean user in USA, in europe or in Japan will see those Button caption texts in their own language (without any spesific code of mine). Or will they? My problem is: I'm in Finland and programming for finnish users. In earlier Delphi versions those default Button captions were in finnish automatically in compiled piece of software, but not in software compiled in Delphi 10.2 Community Edition. I've tried to change the defalut language in Project -Options - Version info -Languge, but it does'nt work. What's different in Delphi 10.2 Community Edition compared to the earlier versions, what should I do to get those default button caption texts in my language?
Thanks.

Android SDK and NDK - file locations and SDK Manager - by: Alan

For the life of me I can't find the location of the SDK and NDK files. NONE of the locations specified in the EMBT docwikis help. They refer to folders that don't even exist on my PC. It's a Win 10 - 64 bit one. But I wouldn't have thought that would make a difference.

The SDK Manager certainly didn't find them "automatically" as one docwiki suggested would happen. The Mobile extension is installed. As is the Android Eclipse IDE. File Manager search can't find anything with 'sdk" or "ndk" in it. Not that I trust that all that much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Alan

Suggestion to implement a "Self"-like statement inside a With block - by: Gonzalo

$

Many times I found myself needing to make a reference to the complete main object in the with clause. For example:

With PSomePointer(p)^ do
begin
Do something with Psomepointer-member;
Do something with PSomePointer(p)^;
end;

Sometimes psomepointer(p)^ can be a very large, complex object definition. So my suggestion is that the block can be replaced with:

With PSomePointer(p)^ do
begin
Do something with Psomepointer-member;
Do something with "Self-like"-statement;
end;

You can call it what you want of course.

translation fails with resource dll wizard - by: duval

I'm using resource dll wizard in delphi berlin. So far, it workd well, but all of a sudden, it does not work.

here is a part of the .dfn file :

<trans-unit id="O:Form3.O:MainMenu1.O:Bonjour1.Caption" resname="O:Form3.O:MainMenu1.O:Bonjour1.Caption">
<source>'Bonjour'</source>
<prop-group name="ITEFieldProp">
<prop prop-type="Created">43343.4206880787</prop>
<prop prop-type="Status">1</prop>
<prop prop-type="Order">17</prop>
<prop prop-type="Type">TMenuItem</prop>
<prop prop-type="Localize">1</prop>
</prop-group>
<target>'Hello'</target>
</trans-unit>
So "Bonjour" should be translated with "Hello"

But in the .eng file, there is "bonjour" and not "hello"

Also, in the .eng directory, the .dfm file is still with the "bonjour" value. I think it should be "hello" right ?

I have no idea where this come from. Please help

Hello all,
I am new on this forum and this is my first question. I have problems importing one of my Borland projects to RAD 10.2 studio. The last error I got when trying to build was:

Does anyone know this issue?

What's the best way to get XML as output from a SQL Server procedure in Delphi? - by: Bruno

$

I need to read in Delphi the output from a SQL Server procedure that returns a XML as output (@MSG1)

@MSG1 NVARCHAR(MAX) OUTPUT

I've tried to get this output using a TFDStoredProc component as well as a TFDQuery, however, it doesn't matter the variable type I use in the parameters configuration in Delphi (ftWideString, ftWideMemo etc.) it always store just the first 8000 characters of the output. A count statement in the SQL Command section of the Delphi's FireDAC Query Editor shows that the output of the procedure have more than 8000 characters.

So, the problem seems to be occurring internally, when the value is assigned to the variable. Does anybody have an idea about how to fix it? Maybe a different approach to the problem... Thanks in advance.

I'm using SQL Server 2008 and Delphi 10.2

TLayOut -- anyone know how this works? - by: Frank

$

I was taking a look at sample code for a login screen. It has something on it called FooterLayout. It is a TLayout. If I try to delete the text box that is in the TLayOut it says Selection contains a component, ExperienceText, introduced in an ancestor and cannot be deleted. So my question is how do you work with a TLayOut.. is there a separate editor for it or something? Any demos on how to create or edit a TLayOut?
